Lydia Lynch, aged 22, moved to Katherine earlier this month from her home town of Brisbane, Queensland.
Ms Lynch has graduated from the University of Queensland with degrees in Journalism and History.
She said she was excited to start her career at a rural newspaper, and to get to know everyone in town.
“I’ve always wanted to move to the Northern Territory since I spent time in some remote communities around Alice Springs a few years ago,” she said.
“Its such a privilege to get to report on issues which are important to Katherine and its people and I can’t wait to get started.”
Editor Chris McLennan welcomed Lydia to the team.
“With all the digital doors opening to the media it is a terrific time to be involved the craft,” he said.
“We very much value the support of readers for our printed product and we crossed a threshold over the New Year and now have 7000 followers for our online products.
“Lydia and I welcome any suggestions or news tips you may have as we look to further improve our coverage of Katherine and region in the year ahead.”
