This week’s weather watch is all about a potential tropical cyclone brewing in the Gulf of Carpentaria.
The cyclone, if it does form, will be called Alfred and the science of prediction is not developed enough to predict its likely track across the Top End, if it indeed it comes this way at all.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the system is expected to continue tracking slowly in a northerly direction, remaining over water, before turning back towards the NT Gulf coast today with the system centre crossing the coast tomorrow.
A flood watch remains in place for the Carpentaria Coastal Rivers due to heavy rainfall associated with the tropical low which may lead to strong river rises during the next couple of days.
A minor flood warning has been issued for the McArthur River.
A minor flood warning remains in place for the Daly River, which is expected to remain above the minor flood level through until the middle of the week, as flood waters slowly recede.
