Humidity levels have dropped although temperatures have still ranged around the 35 degree mark.
There was even a heavy mist on the northern end of town this morning towards Florina Road in the still conditions.
The arrival of the tropical depression later in the week is expected to trigger substantial rain but until it makes its westerly turn from the gulf the track of former Tropical Cyclone Alfred is still uncertain.
The former cyclone is still located near the coast east of Borroloola and expected to track slowly southeast towards the coast and tracking to the west crossing the Top End in the next couple of days. Rainfall of 30 to 80mm with isolated heavier falls up to 100mm are possible over the eastern Carpentaria District.
“The heavy falls are expected to peak inland from Thursday and ease from later on Friday as the low moves to WA border,” the bureau of meteorology said this morning.
The bureau is forecasting the arrival of rain in Katherine on Friday with amounts likely to be less than 10mm.
Today and tomorrow are expected to reach a top temperature of 38 degrees.
The Katherine Times has approached Katherine Town Council and the NT Government’s Department of Infrastructure to learn when the Katherine bridge webcam will be available for online viewing by the public.
As yet there is no update but we will keep pressing but for the present we will continue our morning vigil to bring you the latest levels.
