Police had arrested the 21-year-old woman after the death of a 25-year-old man in Katherine late Friday night.
Police claim the man had been stabbed in the chest.
A large number of family and supporters filed into the Katherine Courthouse this morning, some offering words of support to Cadell as she was led into the court for the brief mention hearing.
Draped in a bright green blanket, Cadell only nodded her head and softly said she understood as Judge Elisabeth Armitage dealt quickly with her case.
It is believed the incident occurred at the Kalano community at 11.50pm and the man died from stabbing wounds.
Police on the weekend said it did not appear the two people knew each other.
Members of the Major Crime Squad travelled to Katherine on the weekend to investigate the incident and to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
Cadell appeared in court this morning charged with murder.
She was remanded in custody to re-appear for a further mention hearing in Katherine on March 21.
Judge Armitage said she would be taken to jail in Darwin and would like re-appear for her next hearing via video link.
Cadell did not appear to acknowledge the words shouted from her supporters but did briefly look around as she was led away after the five minute hearing.
She has not yet been asked to enter a plea on the charge.
