Katherine Town Council was told on Monday night sales from the council-owned Visitor Information Centre for January were $12,575, a drop of $3260, or down about 20 per cent on the previous year.
Visitor numbers passing through the centre for January were 2110, a fall of 337 or just 1.7 per cent on 2016.
Average sales per visitor for January were $5.96 per patron, compared to last year’s average of $7.38 per patron.
“Decreases in sales for the month of January can be attributed to the weather conditions experienced,” council was told in a report.
“Access to major attractions were restricted for considerable periods during the month, affecting visitor’s abilities to book tours in advance, if at all.”
Visitors told the centre the town needed more direction on how to get to the centre.
