The construction of the Northern Gas pipeline between Tennant Creek and Mount Isa was due to start in April.
It will be delayed as the company finalises outstanding land access approvals with traditional owners in the Northern Territory.
A company spokesman said the approvals will be completed in several weeks, and the compressor stations in Phillip Creek and Mount Isa will be completed this year as planned.
“The project remains on schedule for first gas to flow in 2018,” the spokesman said.
“Jemena thanks the communities, particularly the local Tennant Creek and Mount Isa communities for their understanding and continued support of the Northern Gas pipeline project.”
But there will be an amendment of the terms between Jemena and its construction partner McConnell Dowell.
This means the tendering process will restart for some parts of the project.
“Jemena understands the resequencing may be disappointing to members of the community, particularly those businesses in Tennant Creek which have been preparing to deliver contracts. Jemena remains committed to delivering these contracts,” the spokesman said.
“Jemena will be communicating will impacted individuals as soon as possible to provide further details on what this means for them.”
Last month the Wakaya Aboriginal Land Trust lodged an emergency objection to the Northern Territory Government saying they had not consented to land clearing.
