They have completed the first Indigenous “Ready to Work” Indigenous pre-employment program.
The six week program helps entry level participants to gain knowledge and skills required for employment on the $450M R8000 New Air Combat Capability facilities project at Tindal RAAF Base.
The Indigenous pre-employment program is delivered by registered training organisation, Carey Training in conjunction with the Kalano CDP.
\The program is funded by Department of Trade Business and Innovation, who provide support for regional and remote communities to train workers for projects in the community.
Carey Training chief executive officer Paul Brock said together they were providing locals with the requisite skills and knowledge required to secure employment with organisations who have won work packages at Tindal.
“Carey Training is acutely aware it is essential that any employment opportunities associated with the Tindal project are secured by local people.
“It is important that locals are given every opportunity to participate in local projects, by doing so we are paving the way for new career paths and creating role models in the community for others to follow.”
The program continues to go from strength to strength; a further 10 Katherine locals have signed on to the second Indigenous pre-employment program, which began earlier this month.
The Katherine Regional Economic Development Committee is an advisory body to the NT Government, identifies and initiates regional and economic development projects in the Katherine region.
Since 2015, the KREDC has engaged in discussion with the Department of Defence and Lendlease to develop options for local contractors and local people to participate in employment and Development opportunities with the NACC projects at Tindal.
The Tindal NACC contracts commenced in mid-2016 and will continue until 2021.
