The man was one of three division one winners nationally in Oz Lotto draw 1209 on April 18, with each taking home a division one prize of $3,333,333.34.
The other division one winners were from New South Wales and the ACT.
The stunned winner admitted to Tatts officials he had no idea he was holding such a valuable ticket.
“I went in store to check my ticket not expecting anything until the staff ushered me to a more private area of the store!” the winner said.
“I’m honestly pretty lost – it’s hard to comprehend that amount of money!
“I only moved to Darwin a couple of months ago and am currently job hunting – so this couldn’t have been a better start!”
When asked how he planned to spend his new windfall, the winner knew immediately what his first expense would be.
“I’m going to get a haircut!” the winner giggled, explaining it had been awhile.
Besides that, while still coming to terms with the enormous increase to his bank balance, the winner shared he wouldn’t rush into anything.
“I’m going to really need to sit down and think about it!” the winner explained.
“Ideally I’d love to go on a one week retreat and think about it in a constructive way.
“Tonight I’ll be celebrating in the Darwin way however – with a couple of beers!”
