The Bureau of Meteorology expects northern parts of the Top End will see an increase in rainfall from early next week due to a late season tropical low.
But Katherine has only a small chance of receiving any rain and that would be Wednesday and Thursday, the bureau predicts.
One weather website puts the possible rain totals as 1-5mm.
Anzac Day in Katherine will be a hot 36 degrees with no chance of rain, the bureau says.
Katherine’s rain total for the year is 1003.2mm, against an average of 719mm.
Last year we had received 311.8mm at the same time of the year.
Our April rain total so far is 20mm which is about half the average.
The bureau said from tomorrow, the chance of rainfall increases over the north-eastern Top End, associated with a weak tropical low currently located south of Papua New Guinea.
The tropical low is forecast to move west into the Arafura Sea on Sunday, before tracking west/southwest.
“Conditions for this tropical low to develop into a tropical cyclone are mixed with some factors favouring further development and others not,” the bureau said.
“The main impact of this event will be an increase of rainfall across northern parts of the Top End throughout next week.
“If rainfall from this tropical low impacts Darwin before the end of April, only 19mm of rain is required to reach second place for highest rainfall in a wet season.”
