The NT Government this week passed legislation which the Government claims will drive down the cost of living with free, real-time fuel price information from every service station in the Territory at your fingertips.
Treasurer Nicole Manison said the new MyFuel NT will require all fuel retailers to publish fuel prices online via a simple online portal, so consumers get to compare fuel prices and find the cheapest fuel in their region.
” MyFuel NT will help Territorians find the cheapest fuel and keep the pressure on the fuel retailers to give a better deal for Territorians,” Ms Manison said.
“MyFuel NT is also great for businesses and holiday makers, making travel planning easier for the availability and price of fuel right across the Territory.
“A cent per litre reduction on the price of fuel will save Territory motorists millions of dollars per year.
“The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission investigation into the Darwin petrol market released in November 2015 recommended providing current retail prices to motorists to help drive greater competition on fuel prices.
“This will ensure all Territorians can access fuel prices, find the best deal and drive greater competition on those prices.
“Fuel data will also be made available free of charge for new or existing fuel price services to drive innovation and new digital business opportunities in the Territory.
“Once again, the Leader of the Opposition has let down Territorians by refusing to support an initiative that stands to benefit so many Territorians,” Ms Manison said.
MyFuel NT will be fully operational from November 1.
