ST Joseph’s Parish sadly farewelled its much loved parish priest, Father Mark McGuinness, 58, early last month for health reasons.
Father Mark moved to Sydney where he passed away on the weekend.
He served the Katherine Catholic Parish for almost three years, originally coming to Katherine from Monivae College in Hamilton, Victoria.
St Joseph’s was his third appointment to the Northern Territory.
Previously, Father Mark had been Parish Priest at Our Lady’s of the Sacred Heart, Wadeye along with appointments in Darwin. Father Mark was active in the community and St Joseph’s Catholic College.
He supported the Tindal community and contributed to the work of the inter-church council.
A memorial mass will be held at St Joseph’s Church in Katherine on Tuesday, May 23 to be celebrated by Bishop Eugene Hurley at 10am.
A social gathering will be held afterwards, please bring a plate.
