Katherine Hourglass Jewellers owner Leith Malcolm said it had been a long time coming.
“Thank you to all of our customers for their support over the years,” Mr Malcolm said.
“Due to a decline in business conditions we have had to close down.
“We were unable to negotiate a rent reduction with the landlord,” he said.
“Outstanding layby, repairs, special orders and warranty replacements will be hearing from our office in Adelaide in the next few days.”
Mr Malcolm said it had been a rough year on the business.
He said he had been diagnosed with a serious illness and had been receiving treatment.
The store located in Katherine’s Oasis Shopping Centre, closed unexpectedly on Saturday night.
The closure of Hourglass contributes to a large number of empty shops in the Katherine retail area, which some residents have counted as approaching 20 in number.
