Police conducted a random traffic apprehension on Katherine Terrace at 2.30am on Thursday where a hefty ammount of cannabis was confiscated from a vehicle travelling to Numbulwar.
The drugs had the potential to yield $227,000 if sold in the NT Indigenous Communities police said.
A 28-year-old male and his 26-year-old wife were arrested and charged with possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis and were bailed in the Katherine Local Court to appear on July 27 in Katherine.
Det. Sen. Sgt Mark Malogorski said this was a significant seizure by police.
“NT police will continue to target drug supplies transporting cannabis and other illicit substances into Indigenous communities,” Sen. Sgt Malogorski said.
“The sale of cannabis on Indigenous communities causes a huge impact on the finances and health of Indigenous residents in the NT.”
Earlier this year NT police charged a 37-year-old man with drug offences following a traffic arrest in Katherine.
Police conducted a search of the vehicle and located 66 grams of methamphetamine, 4.5 kilograms of cannabis concealed in cryovac bags, a quantity of Viagra and a quantity of steroids.
