The AHA NT Awards for Excellence received over 400 nominations, across 37 Award categories from hospitality venues located throughout the Territory, including many from the Katherine region.
One of the major awards of the evening was the ‘Best Apprentice/Trainee” of the Year, which went to Zali Cross, a third year apprentice chef at the Katherine Country Club.
This year Zali is completing her Certificate 3 in Commercial Cookery at CDU, and is known for her exceptional dedication, reliability and ability to rise to all challenges, and her commitment to great food.
“The highlight of the evening was the recognition of Zali Cross being awarded apprentice/trainee of the year,” AHA NT CEO Des Crowe said
“There are many impediments for young employees to maximize their potential when working in the regions.
“The commitment Zali Cross has made with the support of her work colleagues ensures that Katherine’s home grown talent is up there with the best in Australia.”
Matthew Cullen from the Katherine Country Club, took out the ‘Best Community Liaison Officer’ Award, for his tireless work in delivering responsible service of gambling and ensuring the Katherine Country Club meets, and exceeds their gambling compliance requirements.
The judges of this award noted Matthew’s contributions and commitment to improve the club’s gaming room, his work to ensure patrons have easy access to responsible gambling information and support, and links with Amity and other community support agencies.
In a very competitive field, the Katherine Hotel was crowned the winner of the ‘Best Retail Liquor Outlet’ category, for their excellent venue management, product range and presentation of their retail liquor space.
The judges also commended their bottle shop staff on their product knowledge.
The Katherine Club took home the major, Best Overall Club award in the ‘Large Club’ category, as well as the Best Club Bar Presentation and Service.
The Award is a testament to the hard work and dedication that Katherine Club Manager, Alison Vincent and her team provide their Club and the community of Katherine.
Mr Crowe said the Katherine region had a long history of delivering outstanding hospitality.
“The Katherine hospitality was on show last night and it was no surprise that the Katherine Club, Katherine Country Club and the Katherine Hotel were in the winners list,” Mr Crowe said.
“Great team approach from both community and family run businesses ensure that the Katherine community and the NT Tourist is well served.”
