At the final council meeting of the current group, Alderman Clark indicated she would contesting any election, as it now appears there will be one.
All the remaining councillors, aside from Alderman Donald Higgins, had previously indicated they would be nominating for council again.
Up until last night, Alderman Clark had previously told the Katherine Times she had been “considering her position”.
With the retirement of Alderman Phillips late last year, and Alderman Higgin’s decision not to re-nominate, there are two “vacancies” on the council.
But all six positions, including the Mayor, are up for grabs.
Two citizens have already come forward to Katherine Times and indicated they were nominating and we understand of at least two others who have nominated as well, which means an election will be required.
There is no indication yet that Mayor Fay Miller, who is also re-nominating, will be challenged and an Mayoral election would be required .
Nominations close on Friday, August 4 at a ballot draw held in Darwin where Katherine Times intends to attend and livestream from.
The council elections will be held on August 26.
