Suicide rates in these areas are twice the national average.
Mataranka woman Lisa Garvey has found away to shed light on the crippling illness.
“I am holding a charity ball at the Territory Manor in Mataranka on October 14 from 6pm,” Ms Garvey said.
“It is to raise money for Beyond Blue, an organisation that raises awareness for anxiety, depression and suicide.”
Ms Garvey is planning the entire event on her own.
“I thought it would be a great opportunity for everyone to get dressed up and also to raise money for a good cause,” she said.
“There are not a lot of social events on down in Mataranka.”
Ms Garvey is hoping to see people from around the region make the trip to Mataranka for the event.
“At this stage we are hoping for about 100-150 people,” Ms Garvey said.
“It is semi formal attire, tickets are $50 for adults and $15 for children. That includes entry, a complimentary drink on arrival and food throughout the night. No BYO.
“You can buy tickets at the Territory Manor, the Mataranka supermarket or you can message me (0418 273 455) and I will email you the tickets.”
