Temperatures are already rising across the NT after a warmer than usual dry season.
The Bureau of Meteorology released its climate outlook today.
The bureau says Katherine can expect warmer than usual maximum and minimum temperatures during September and October.
Katherine has already had its hottest July on record.
The pre-monsoonal build up is officially from October to November.
The bureau says the “chance” that median temperatures will be higher in Katherine is “very likely”.
While Katherine today had a hot day with 59 per cent humidity, the build-up is characterised by much higher humidity as the region moves into the wet season again.
Katherine has had absolutely no rain at all during this well-named dry season which runs from May through to October.
In its climate outlook, the bureau forecasts rainfall is expected to be pretty much on average during the next few months.
The bureau said warmer sea surface temperatures off the northern and eastern coasts are likely to be influencing this outlook, also keeping overnight temperatures warmer than average.
