Rangers have failed to locate the large freshwater crocodile again.
The “freshie” was sighted by a tourist at the popular Mataranka swimming hole on Sunday afternoon.
After several days and nights of using spotlights and traps, NT Parks ranger have failed in their attempts to trap and relocate the croc, and now it cannot be found.
A spotlight search on Tuesday night failed to find the crocodile.
“Given this, and following our current procedure, more surveys will be conducted today, tonight and tomorrow.
“If there are no more sightings, the Springs will be opened by tomorrow afternoon,” a NT Parks spokeswoman said.
The crocodile is believed to be about two metres long.
For visitor safety and to reduce the risk of animal/human interaction the springs were closed “until all practical steps have been taken to capture and or remove the crocodile”.
“The closure is in accordance with By-Law 6(1)(a) of the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation By-Laws as the Commission is of the opinion that public safety may be endangered.” NT Parks said
