”We have made the NT Titles in Darwin, and it is the first time the Katherine Big River BMX club is sending a team,” local BMX star Nicky Thomson said
“There are four of us racing, myself, Aaron Ledgard, Daniel Lang and Brodie Stubbs. Brodie and Daniel are new to BMX this year as well so it will be their first time racing,” she said.
Ms Thomson said the preliminary competition starts today.
“Pre titles are on Wednesday, which gives everyone a chance to ride the track before the main event on Friday and Saturday,” she said.
“It is exciting to race a different track with different people. There are people coming from Canberra, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.”
Ms Thomson won at the NT Titles in Alice Springs last year.
“It was amazing and it was pretty cool that I won, I actually hadn’t raced in years,” Ms Thomson said.
“This year I am competing against different people, it could be very challenging.”
Ms Thomson said she still gets “ridiculously nervous” before a race.
“I try to calm down and get myself to relax because I get the shakes, it is very nerve wracking.”
Success at the NT Titles would see the team compete in the Australian BMX titles in Western Australia next year.
