The town pool was closed last night after unsafe levels of PFAS were detected in the water on September 28.
Katherine Times broke the story late last night, that the pool has recorded readings of 0.84 micrograms per litre.
The safe limit of PFAS for recreational use is 0.7 micrograms per litre.
Katherine Town Council CEO Robert Jennings said as an interim solution other sources of water would be secured to replenish the pool and further testing would be undertaken.
“This is a precautionary move, we have put a plan in place with a two week turn around time,” Mr Jennings said.
“We will take enough water out of the pool, then put in another water supply, likely the town water which will lower the overall levels of PFAS.
“We will continue to test the pool water weekly.
“Department of Defence have offered their pool to schools and for events in the meantime, that will be on a limited basis, but they are trying to help out.”
