Jarius Hoffman and Alisha Knoetze were named captains and Rodney Nyandoro and Alina Biju vice-captains.
Kirsten Haddow, Kirstyn Ousey, Hayden White and Gio Remulla will join the captains and vice-captains on the leadership executive team.
Mr Hoffman said the first person he told after being announced was his mother.
“I sent my mum a text to tell her. I was pretty chuffed and proud of myself,” Mr Hoffman said.
“In addition to helping the school, I saw it as a learning opportunity for myself. I wanted to learn how to lead and have discussions with people I might not be familiar with.
“I think it is important to get the student perspective across and be role models to the younger students,” he said.
Ms Knoetze said her friends describe her as someone who puts others before herself.
“When I first got to the school I was really well supported, I was from a different country so it was really hard at first. I want to make sure others are supported like I was,” Ms Knoetze said.
“I was shocked when I found out, there were some really good candidates.”
Ms Knoetze and Mr Hoffman both said they wanted to strengthen the student council by encouraging it to be more involved with the school.
Senior school assistant principal Kylie Murphy said the new leadership team would start their term next week.
“The speeches delivered by each of the applicants were amazing. Each outlined their vision for the school and how they would go about achieving it,” Ms Murphy said.
During Term 3 a number of Year 11 students underwent an intensive process to be considered for the 2018 leadership team.
After applying for the position by an initial written application, an interview with the Year 11 coordinator Daniel Lake and senior school assistant principal Kylie Murphy was conducted.
Following this, eight applicants delivered a three minute speech to the Katherine High School staff and members of the Student Leadership Council.
After the speeches were delivered the staff and Student Leadership Council voted for the 2018 School Captain positions.
Principal Peter Fairchild congratulated the successful applicants at the recent school assembly and indicated that he would be meeting regularly with this group of outstanding leaders throughout the 2018 school year.
“We wish the 2018 School Captains, Vice Captains and members of the SLC Executive all the best in their new roles and responsibilities,” Dr Fairchild said.
