Tom Davidson and Trey Eiermann will head to the Gold Coast in January to take part in a two day competition against Australia’s best fighters.
Mr Davidson quit his job as a ringer on a remote station so he could train more frequently.
“I moved into town so I could do this, I am now working as a car detailer at Katherine Toyota,” Mr Davidson said.
“I was doing a lot of bush work so I was training off and on and was not that consistent.”
The 20-year-old said he was “keen as hell” for the titles.
“I want to be the best and make it to the top,” Mr Davidson said.
“Whenever you are training, you are always thinking of how hard your opponent is working and that keeps me going.
“The ring craft at this competition is going to be incredible.”
Year 9 student Trey Eiermann will be representing the Northern Territory alongside Mr Davidson.
“There are four fighters from the NT, two from Katherine and two from Darwin,” Mr Eiermann said.
“I am really excited and I think it is going to be a great experience.
“Muay Thai is really good for fitness and I love sport, it keeps me going.”
Mr Eiermann said if he fights well he will have a shot at making the Australian team, who will compete in Mexico at the world championships next year.
The pair have undertaken a gruelling training schedule to ensure they are ready to compete.
“I train every day of the week,” Mr Eiermann said.
“Running, skipping, sparring.”
Blue Eagle Muay Thai club trainer David Flood said about 400 fighters from around the country would be competing at the nationals.
“I am super proud that our small club was asked to nominate, we are the first club outside of Darwin to be asked,” Mr Flood said.
“The guys could be fighting anyone in Australia, they are matched by their weight and age so they could be up against people with 20 fights under their belt.
“We are looking for donations to send these guys to Queensland, it is not cheap and we are relying on the kindness of Katherine businesses. We will be organising some fundraisers to help them get over there,” he said.
