Fish found below the Stuart Highway bridge have been found with high levels of PFAS.
Until the full results from the Department of Defence’s investigation into the chemical leak from Tindal are known, anglers and the public have been warned to avoid eating the fish as a precaution.
The NT Government says it will erect signs to warning people of the possible dangers of eating the famous fish.
Defence has been criticised for not testing fishing in the Daly River, upstream of the Katherine River.
The “advisory” in the interim results, from 98 samples, across all species, show elevated “well above” results.
Some results from the department’s investigation have been released tonight with more to follow in about two weeks.
The full report is expected to be released early next year.
