Katherine Mayor Fay Miller has been invited by the Chief Minister’s office to participate in a Community, Gas Industry and Business Reference Group.

At the Katherine Town Council Meeting last night, Mayor Miller announced she had accepted the position.
The Reference Group is a significant recommendation of the Independent Scientific Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracturing.
According to the report, “the creation of the Reference Group will assist in establishing trust and confidence in the Government and in the gas industry.”
The reference group will meet four times over the course of a year.
“There will be a lot of work involved, a lot of additional reading,” Mayor Miller said.
The Reference Group will comprise of representatives from the community, environmental groups, local business, the gas industry, Land Councils and local government.
Mayor Miller read the invitation letter from the Ministers Office at the council meeting, which said: “The government recognises the importance of engaging the Northern Territory community in relation to delivering a safe reliable on shore gas industry that benefits Territorians and values our unique environment.”
