The awards are designed to showcase individuals and organisations that have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the LGBT+ community to ensure equality, opportunity and fair treatment for all.
Jake Gablonski, a Territory social commentator and radio regular, was also nominated for the Hero category in the 2018 Australian LGBTI Awards, for his work advocating for Indigenous mental health in the LGBT+ space.

Upon accepting the Hero nomination for contributing to saving the life of a young Indigenous boy from Queensland, Jake said he was honoured to be nominated for his contributions.
“There is no bigger gift than giving someone life by helping them rediscover their purpose, and it's as easy as a conversation that can empower them to work through things, especially dealing with accepting sexuality.
“I will do my part for everyone, especially those from my [Indigenous and LGBTI+] communities” he said.
The 23-year-old from Katherine took to his social media followers to make the official announcement as a finalist, last week.
Mr Gablonski is not the only Indigenous Territorian named a finalist in the 2019 awards; Indigenous Drag Sensation Mis Ellaneous (Ben Graetz) and community initiative Black Rainbow founded by Darwin’s Dameyon Bonson are also among the finalists.
The three are nominated across various categories among some of the world’s most iconic LGBT+ figures impacting the Australian community.
The winners will be announced at The Star Sydney on March 1, 2019, during Mardi Gras.
