A police drug detector dog has allegedly found drugs hidden in the spare tyre of a Katherine man’s car.

As a result of the find, NT Police have charged a 33-year-old male with drug related offences.
Police stopped the man’s car for random breath testing on Emungalan Road, Katherine about 10.30am yesterday.
Officers said they could faintly smell cannabis coming from the vehicle.
Drug detector dog Hugo was deployed.
Hugo provided a response to a tyre which was located on the back of the vehicle.
On further investigation, police claim they found about 908 grams of cannabis hidden in the tyre.
A further search of the vehicle located additional cannabis, a bong, and a large thermos with traces of cannabis inside, police allege.
The male was placed under arrest and taken to Katherine Police Station where he participated in a drug test and returned a positive result for cannabis.
He was charged with:
- Supply commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
- Possess commercial quantity schedule 2 dangerous drug
- Driver with prohibited drug in body
- Possess thing to administer dangerous drug
The man was bailed to appear in Darwin Local Court on January 14.
