Lis Clark told this week's meeting "there is quite a high amount of vandalism happening around town which is costing the council quite a bit of money".

Alderman Clark detailed damage to lawn sprinklers, a constant complaint for years, rubbish bins being thrown into the river and food and drink stains at the town's netball courts.

She also questioned a report of a large mess being left behind at the showgrounds after it had been hired out.

She was assured the showgrounds' user had paid a deposit for the hire which would be used to pay for the clean up.

Acting Mayor Peter Gazey agreed there was some vandalism in town but overall the council oversees "a lot of areas" which are not vandalised "so there is a positive".
