The Central Australia region covers the largest area of all the regions within the Northern territory. It share borders with Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland’s and encompasses some 550,000 km. The landscape has spectacular natural attractions, including amazing desert environments, mountain ranges and outback swimming holes, as well as extraordinary Aboriginal cultural experiences. Alice Springs is the major township with a population of around 27,000. The region includes 28 remote communities and more than 200 outstations.
Central Australia is host to a number of annual arts, music and sporting events, including the Desert Mob art exhibition and market place , Uluru Field of lights, Bush Bands Bash, Wide Open Spaces, Finke Desert ace, Camel Cup, Henley – on –Todd dry river boat race, as well as the Parrtijima Festival, to name just a few.
The population in Alice Springs is 39,391 (2020) with the main age range being 25 to 49 years (29.3%). Aboriginal people make up 42% of the population and 1 in 5 people speak Aboriginal languages at home.
The majority of the population lives in Alice Springs with the remainder of the population living in remote communities and on outstations, police stations, roadhouses and mine and exploration sites, as well as the township of Yulara near Uluru.

The central Australia Region encompasses Acute Care Services, including Alice Springs Hospital, Primary and Public Health Care, and Mental Health Services. Alice Springs Hospital has 207 beds and facilities include emergency services, surgical and medical care, paediatrics and obstetrics.
Surrounded by the beautiful MacDonnell ranges, the Alice Springs Hospital Unit is comprised of a small and dynamic team, who provide a broad range of elective and emergency surgical services to meet the needs of the community. The unit promotes a culturally safe environment where you can expect to work with and learn from a culturally diverse population. Comprising of five operating theatre suites, two recovery units, and admissions office areas and waiting rooms.

We are looking for enthusiastic Registered Nurses with experience in the Perioperative environment to come and join our collaborative team. In the Alice Springs Hospital Perioperative Unit you will experience a variety of skillsets across anaesthetics, surgical (instrument and circulating), and pre – and – post – operative care, supported by a Nurse education team, making it the perfect place for the nurse who is looking to do it all.
