The mother-of-three, who didn’t want to be named, said she was holidaying in Katherine’s rural area, when one of her sons stormed into the house, telling her about a “plane in the yard”.
“I went outside to have a look and there was a bright, yellow light hovering over the trees only meters away from our back fence,” she said.
“Initially I thought it was a helicopter looking for something with a spotlight - I really didn’t think much of it.
“But there was no noise, no sound at all - and all the animals you usually hear at night were quiet too.”
The 44-year-old said while she knew that “strange lights” were “nothing too unusual” in Katherine, she thought “the RAAFies at Tindal were out for an exercise”.
“But the light just hovered there.
“It didn’t move or do anything, it was just this bright thing hanging there - and you couldn’t really see its shape, it was all blurry.”
The woman said as a “non-believer” she found it hard to put in words what she and two of her children had seen.
“I used to think people were a bit ... you know ... crazy ... to believe there’s little green men out there who spy on us.
“Being so close to Tindal - most of it I believe can be put down to that.
“But there was something strange with this one.
“I can’t really explain it - it somehow felt it didn’t belong here - and that’s crazy, I know.”
The woman said the object hovered above the property’s back fence for “several minutes” before she grabbed her camera and started taking photos.
“All I could get was a blurry yellow light - no real shape.
“Suddenly it started to shake.
“And there was still no noise.
“I kept taking photos and took my eyes off it for a moment to check my camera - and when I looked back up there were two.
“It was dead silent - and the other light just appeared next to the first one.
“It came out of nowhere.
“It started moving around, but it was hard to keep your eyes on it - it sounds weird, but it was like it tried to avoid eye contact.”
The woman said while her children were “kinda excited”, the appearance of the second light had “spooked” her.
“I grabbed the kids and took them inside and when I looked back the lights were gone - within a few seconds they had just disappeared.”
Earlier this year people across the region witnessed several unexplained phenomena in the sky.
