The 2014 cohort of graduates produced a record 98 per cent of eligible students completing their Northern Territory Certificate of Education and Training qualification.
School captain Brione Scattini said the previous senior class left big shoes to fill.
“There are definitely high expectations, so we’re trying to uphold that,” Miss Scattini said.
But the focus is not solely on hitting the books.
As leaders of the Student Leadership Council, the four captains are endeavouring to change the amount of negative language used in the school yard.
“Along with the other captains [Sam Guempel Cruthers, Isaac Bell and Lauren Adamson], we’ve got a big push to rid the school of offensive or derogatory language – words like gay, retard; it’s a campaign which we hope will make others more aware of the words they’re using and how they make others feel,” Miss Scattini explained.
This year, 73 students at Katherine High School are striving to complete their NTCET, in addition to five part-time vocational students.
