Nominations for the 2016 Northern Territory Nursing and Midwifery Excellence Awards close at the end of this month.
Katherine Hospital midwife Elaine McArthur was recognised at the awards in 2014 when she received the Administrator’s Medal for Lifetime Achievement.
“I couldn’t believe they called out my name when I’d heard all these other people that had done amazing things,” she said.
Ms McArthur said the awards usually went to health professionals who had started new programs within their organisation and inspired colleagues.
“I wouldn’t say I’m inspiring, but I have been here for 35 years,” she said.
“I’m someone who hangs in there and keeps going.”
There are a number of categories open for nomination, including aged, first year graduate nurse or midwife and, for the first time this year, alcohol and other drugs.
