Other members of the NT Government Caucus are also expected to be in Katherine on Thursday.
Opposition leader Gary Higgins will also be in town the same day for a series of meetings with community groups.
It will be Mr Gunner’s second visit to Katherine since the Labor Government swept to power in August.
Mr Gunner is scheduled to co-host a community barbecue on the lawns at Katherine Town Council with Katherine MLA Sandra Nelson.
“I'm looking forward to the community barbecue and hope to see as many Katherine residents as possible,” Ms Nelson wrote on her Facebook page.
“It's a great opportunity for residents to meet with members of parliament and get to know them.”
Thirteen people have registered their interest online and five have confirmed they would attend the barbecue.
The event will run from 5 to 7pm.
Mr Gunner will then be hosting a private dinner for invited guests to discuss Katherine’s future at the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts and Culture Centre.
