Katherine NAIDOC Week treasurer Maddie Bower spoke of how much this year’s theme, Our Language Matter, meant to her.
Ms Bower said on the 2016 Census international languages were listed but Indigenous Australian languages were not broken down into dialects and this needed to change.
“It’s really important to be able to express your language,” she said.
“Some of us are still finding our language but it’s just a matter of time.”
