Katherine’s Under 18s AFL team, the Big River Hawks, were also set to play their opening match on Sunday.
The Hawks were scheduled to play against against Tracy Village which unfortunately forfeited their first round game.
So the boys will have to wait until October 22 for their first game of the season.
The Hawks Girls game was at noon on Sunday at Tracey Village oval.
Again with the Hawks’ teams, it meant a long bus trip leaving at 6.30am on Sunday morning from the high school.
Some players also need to travel long distances to attend training.
The first home game will be played at Nitmiluk Oval in Katherine on October 28.
