There are 215 Katherine pets named Bella and 169 Charlies according to Katherine Veterinary Clinic.
“A lot of people choose the name based on the colour of the animal and its sex. We have seen White Girls and Brownies,” vet Megan Thomas said.
“People really love their pets in Katherine.”
Katherine Veterinary Clinic vet Lauren Walters said people like naming their pets in pairs.
“People will name one dog rum and the other one coke, we had cats come in and one was called bangers and the other one mash,” Ms Walters said.
“We have noticed people name their pets after characters from movies and TV shows.
“There was a big outbreak of Anas and Svens after the movie Frozen came out,” she said.
Some of the weirdest and wackiest pet names in Katherine included Lady Marmalade, Basic Card, Hot Dog and Pawsome.
Katherine Times ran the popular Dog of a Day competition earlier this year and Lord Bristol Ruffington took out first place.

Pet Insurance Australia have also revealed their top 10 pet names for 2017, and they are a mix of old favourites with a few new surprises.
“This is always a great time of year as we can really get a good sense of what is changing when it comes to the naming of our pets,” Pet Insurance Australia spokeswoman Nadia Crighton said.
“A lot of names have changed this year, with the top spot being claimed by a name that didn’t even make the chart last year.”
Luna claimed the top spot for dogs and cats across Australia this year.
Coming in at second place for the pocchs was Charlie, which Katherine vets said was the most popular in our town.
Coco claimed runner up for feline names.
Two new additions to the top 10s were, Oreo and Bailey.
“It’s wonderful to see so many new names making the list, and some old-school names like Frankie and Archie making a comeback,” Ms Crighton said.
“Alongside our regulars like Charlie, Bella and Ruby.”
Pet Insurance Australia also notes an increase in names from famous TV Shows.
“The hit show Game of Thrones has certainly made an impact on the name front with many pet owners choosing names for their pets from the show.”
Loki which ranked number 11 on the feline list is also from the top show Vikings.
If you are expecting new pup or kitten for the festive season PIA also has some great advice when it comes to naming your beloved pet.
“Take your time and choose a sensible name that is going to stand the test of time,” Crighton suggests. “For dogs, it’s a good idea to see how the name carries when called.”
PIA also advises having a few names to consider as your new bundle of fluff might just not suit the name you had in mind.
“Having a couple of names on hand is also a good plan, then you can choose which best fits your new family member when they arrive home.”
