The mango industry has again aligned itself with thoughts of summer with this year’s Mango Mess-tival at Bondi Beach.

The Mess-tival marks the peak of Australia’s mango production. 

While mango lovers enjoyed all of the fun and messy mango-based activities, $14,408 was also raised for North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club through donations during the event. 

Nippers and the public alike competed in mango eating competitions, blended their own drinks on the bike-powered mango smoothie machine, watched flowers being carved out of mangoes and queued up for delicious BBQ'd mango cheeks. 

Spreading the love from across Australia, mango growers donated trays of various mango varieties including Kensington Pride, R2E2, Calypso and Honey Gold for attendees to sample. 

Horticulture Innovation Australia marketing lead, Graeme Yardy, said the organising team was pleased to be supporting North Bondi Life Surf Saving Club on behalf of the Australian mango growers. 

“With it being the start of summer and mangoes being so synonymous with the season, Mess-tival couldn't come at a better time of the year for everyone to enjoy Australia's favourite fruit and fundraise for the club,” he said. 

"They're an icon and this year, Aussie Mangoes is celebrating '#200DaysofMangoes', sharing the endless possibilities they bring throughout the 200 days of the fruit's season. 

“Today was an absolute success and we can't wait to be back next year with more mango madness activities for everyone to be involved in."
