The baton will travel from Alice Springs to Litchfield on March 1.
Katherine’s Mary Ann Frogley was shocked but thrilled to find out she would have the honour of carrying the baton.
“My husband nominated me, it was a really big suprise to find out I had been selected,” Mrs Frogley said.
“I am pretty nervous, I don’t think I will drop it because I will be clutching on for dear life. I think the nerves are actually excitement.”
Mrs Frogley said she will be surrounded on the day by friends and family.
“I was selected for the work I do at the YMCA with fitness classes. I run adult classes and classes for kids called born to move,” she said.
It won’t be the easiest run for another Katherine athlete, Wendy Robinson who has recently undergone foot surgery.
“Hopefully I will be able to get my shoe on,” Ms Robinson joked.
“It is pretty cool to be chosen, I am really excited.”
Ms Robinson said she went and watched part of the baton race in Grifith, NSW with her mother earlier this year.
“We went and scoped it out. They had three policemen on either side running with them,” she said.
“Some of my clients got together and nominated me, I run a boot camp.
“I do everything, swimming classes, boot camp and my business. I have represented Australia in a half Ironman so it is great to be doing something back at home,” Ms Robinson said.
The Queen's Baton Relay, is a relay around the world held prior to the beginning of the Commonwealth Games.
The baton carries a message from Queen Elizabeth II which is read at the opening of the games.
Brianna Bell and Rodney Gregg from Katherine will also be bearing the Queen’s Baton on behalf of the Katherine community.
The baton began its relay at Buckingham Palace on March 13 in 2017 ahead of the 21st games to be held on the Gold Coast this April.
So far it has visited 70 nations and territories spanning 230,000 kilometres across 388 days of travel.
