At least six cars parked in front of the flats on Fordham Court, which mainly house pensioners, were spray painted and damaged with rocks.
Two of the cars’ antennae were cut and residents said that items had been stolen from their houses.
Letterboxes were also damaged and plants were pulled from the ground.
“They pinched accelerant from my back yard and attempted to make fires on the bitumen,” resident Doug Collins said.
Kerry Harland called in the incident to police early this morning.
Her car will have to be repainted and the back window will have to be replaced.
“We don’t know who the culprits are, and we don’t think there is much that will be done, but we think there should be a curfew,” Kerry said.
Mick Parker, a short term resident visiting from Darwin, is pushing for solutions to the crime rates in Katherine.
“They target the area because of the pensioners who live here, they wouldn’t do this at the RAAF base, and it shows how gutless they are,” Mick said.
“Short of housing, we’d like security cameras and police monitoring the area.
“They need to impose a curfew like Tennant Creek,” he said.
