Hailing from Melbourne, Roxanne, aged 25, arrived in the Top End on the back of tropical cyclone Marcus.
Roxanne said she was shocked to see the fallen trees and the destruction of power lines lining the road from Darwin airport on her arrival.
“I wasn’t expecting to see so much damage, or so much greenery. In my head the NT was much more desert-like,” she said.
After graduating from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Journalism and Communications, Roxanne moved to Melbourne to pursue a career, starting work with The Yarra Reporter, an online news magazine.
“Working with The Yarra Reporter really sparked my interest in writing about issues which impact the community,” she said.
“I’m really excited to start getting to know the people here, writing about the uniqueness of Katherine and getting to the crux of stories,” Roxanne said.
“I am certain Roxanne is going to be a great addition to our team,” Editor Chris McLennan said.
“I encourage readers of our paper and website to say hello to Roxanne when they see her out and about, and welcome her to Katherine.”
