
NT Correctional Services continues to manage growing prisoner numbers in the Territory’s two correctional centres and the Barkly Work Camp.
This week prisoner numbers reached a new high of 1013 male prisoners at the Darwin Correctional Centre. The female section remains below capacity.
NT Correctional Services has added 20 reserve beds to the Darwin Correctional Centre to create double bunking in some cells and a further 20 reserve beds will be ready by the end of this month.
Extra custodial staff are being rostered on to manage the increased work load.
