McRoberts is accused of derailing a major criminal investigation into a crooked travel agent, Xana Kamitsis, who was allegedly his lover between May and November 2014.
Justice Dean Mildren will oversee the six-week hearing, and the former police chief faces a maximum 15-year prison term if found guilty.
