The day kicked off with an official opening with the first pitch throw by Katherine MLA Sandra Nelson which was pitched to Arnhem MLA Selena Uibo who caught the first catch.
Following this was the opening game between the 2017 grand finalist Rebels and Rockers.
Both teams played a great season in 2017 so the scene was set for a great opening game.
Rebels started off taking the lead in the first inning with both team playing great softball.
In the third inning Rockers fired in 5 runs to give them a good lead, with Rebels continuing to score but it wasn’t enough with final scores Rockers 8 to Rebels 6.
Best of ground for Rockers was Francine Bain, Libby Ross and Dianna Ross while for Rebels Mel Retchford, Georgia Armitage and Joann Svenson.
The second game of the day was Arnhem Crows and Wanderers.
Arnhem Crows are competing in their second season in Katherine Softball with Wanderers returning to the competition after a year away.
Wanderers took the early lead in the first inning with Arnhem Crows suffering a injury meaning time was called, the game then continued but unfortunately Arnhem Crows had a second injury.
After two innings of play, time and game was called with final scores Wanderers 12 to Arnhem Crows 0.
Best on ground for Wanderers was Keely AhChin, Skye Lampton and Anne Manfong and for Arnhem Crows Suzie Katherine, Helen Lee and Soozie Gilles.
This Saturday there will be one game between Rockers and Wanderers at 11am.
