The festival is a community-based event celebrating traditional and contemporary arts and cultural practices from the four clan groups living in Borroloola – the Yanyuwa, Garrwa, Gurdanji and Mara people.
Malandarri Festival Artistic Director Marlene Timothy said she is excited about this year’s Malandarri festival.
“Everyone looks forward every year to the community coming together to showcase our culture and perform our traditional dance and song,” she said.
“There’s a growing buzz right now in Borroloola, especially for the young ones who are getting their costumes together and practicing their dance.”
The Malandarri Festival, presented by Artback NT and the community of Borroloola, will be showcasing Divas on Tour, an all female NT Indigenous group, as well as dance groups from across the country.
There will also be a marketplace, art, workshops, traditional food and kids activities.
Entry is a gold coin donation at the gate and children under 16 are free.
The festival is on Friday June 15 and Saturday June 16.
