The winning ticket was on his fridge door for the whole five weeks.
He only checked the numbers yesterday.
The man held one of the two division one winning entries nationally in the TattsLotto draw from May 5.
Each entry scored the division one prize of $2,013,144.80.
As the entry was not registered to a Tatts Card, Tatts officials had no way to contact the winner to confirm the dream-come-true news.
However the win was confirmed with the Katherine man today.
The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, purchased his 50-game QuickPick entry at Katherine Exposure Photographics.
Speaking to a Tatts official this morning, the man said he had heard a division one win had landed in the region, but didn’t think for a moment it could be him.
“I had the ticket on the fridge at home the whole time,” he man laughed.
“I downloaded the results online and I started going through the ticket and then I saw I had all six numbers in a row.
“I only realised how much the prize was today – I wasn’t sure if that prize was shared or whether I got that full amount.
“It’s just fantastic. It would take you all your life to earn that amount.”
But don’t expect the multi-million dollar win to change life too much for this hard working Katherine man.
“Some of it will get used on things we need, but the rest will make a nice little nest egg for our future,” he said.
“The win won’t stop me from entering TattsLotto again. I’ll definitely hold onto these winning numbers!”
It’s the second time in less than 12 months a division one winning entry has been purchased at Katherine Exposure Photographics.
Katherine Exposure Photographics owner Kathy Smale said she was delighted the winner had finally been united with their prize.
“We’ve had people coming in every day for the past few weeks asking if the winner had been found so it will be great to finally say – ‘yes they have’,” she said.
“It’s just fantastic news. This was our second division one in 12 months but hey wouldn’t it be awesome to sell another one in the next TattsLotto Superdraw?!”
