After two and a half years of dedicated grooming, the sixteen-year-old’s hair has finally reached the required 35 cm mark to donate to Hair with a Heart.
It has been a drawn-out, arduous journey, he said, one that he didn't think would take this long.
Mr Scattini’s locks will be made into a specialised wig for someone who has lost their hair due to a medical condition such as alopecia or cancer.
The decision came after a family member’s battle with cancer was lost in 2015.
“Candice wore a wig on most days, and had a snazzy one for her wedding,” Mr Scattini said.
“It wasn’t long after she died that I decided to grow my own hair for someone else.
“To try and make a difference to the lives of cancer sufferers and their families.”
Mr Scattini, who’s hair had always been short, received positive and negative reactions along the way.
“Most people were pretty supportive, but I also got a lot of comments about looking like a girl.
“I’d think of the kids who don’t have any hair, it was worth putting up with for someone else to have it.”
Proud mum, Jodi Scattini, is amazed that he stuck it out.
“It shows stickability,” she said, “none of us thought it would take this long.”
“It has taken two and a half years of persistent grooming, putting up with odd comments, interesting admirers and jealous women to get to this point.”
Mr Scattini said he now has “mad respect for girls with long hair”.
Many hours were spent on maintaining the locks to be perfect for someone else.

“I would brush it morning and night, plait it to make sure it wasn’t a complete mess and I’d get the dead ends chopped off as well,” he said.
“The principal told me I had hair that would make many a women jealous.”
But on Friday afternoon at 3:15 the hair is coming off.
The chop is happening at The Cutting Edge hairdresser in Katherine, which has played a big part in looking after Mr Scattini’s hair.
Mr Scattini is also raising awareness and funds to support Territorians with cancer.
He has raised a total of $1270 for the Cancer Council so far.
