Members are already meeting twice a month at the Rotary Family Fun Park.
But funds are still needed to bring the existing, run-down shed located at the Rotary Club on Rapide Street, back to life.
The Steering committee is aiming to raise $30,000, which will be deposited into a new bank account called “The Shed”.
And they are already nearly half way there.
“We have partnered with the Australian Men’s Shed Association and people and organisations who contribute more than $500 to our building appeal will be able to claim a tax benefit through AMSA’s deductible gift recipient status,” Katherine men’s shed secretary Chris Dixon said.
“We are a third of the way towards the target and we thank John Leo, the Rotary Club of Katherine, DRV4LYF Driving School and Dr Cameron Smith for their generous contributions.
“We also thank Sandra Nelson’s office for printing our fund-raising leaflets that [the Steering Committee] is currently distributing to as many businesses as [possible].”
The Men’s Shed aims to address health and well being issues in Katherine and provide men and other community members to feel valued and productive.
Mr Dixon said there is a real need for a Men’s shed in Katherine.
