Wurli Wurlinjang Aboriginal Corporation plans to move into the former Whitehouse Furnishers’ showroom in Second Street.

At the moment, Wurli has staff split across the town.

Wurli Wurlinjang already has extensive premises at Third Street and some specialist program administration has been located in the upper level of Pandanus Plaza.

Wurli has lodged a planning application to move staff and specialist programs into the former Whitehouse showroom.

The showroom was sold in 2014 for $1.6 million, according to real estate records.

The corporation “now seek to relocate to the building at lot 93 Second Street which has more suitable access for staff and participants as well as being a more suitable open and relaxed layout”, planning documents state.

“Wurli Wurlinjang intend to occupy the current showroom area with offices and interview rooms ...”

Planning documents also show Wurli Wurlinjang wants to install a demountable ablution structure on the lot to provide toilet, shower and laundry services to participants of the StrongBala Men’s Health program.

“This will allow participants to access these services while being interviewed and assessed in the interview rooms inside.”

Planning documents state a screening Colourbond clad wall will be installed to screen the ablution from both the front of the lot or from the neighbouring lot.

Only this week Wurli Wurlinjang was successful with its long-terms plans to provide a new public dental clinic as part of its services in Katherine.

A $326,450 grant from the Federal Government will allow the corporation to build a dental and oral health facility.

The project would extend the current hearing building of Wurli-Wurlinjang Health Service's Main Clinic to construct the dental and oral health facility.
