The five-month-old border collie X Pomeranian navigated the course and took first prize with a speedy time of 40.25 seconds.
Proud owner Lyndal Carbery said the win came as a surprise, but not without ample prior training.
“I’ve set up an obstacle course in my backyard and Cameo has to complete it every morning before breakfast,” she said.
The creative obstacle course – made out of kids toys and backyard junk – puts Cameo’s natural instincts to work with jumps, hoops, a slide and other objects to navigate.
“It gives her a sense of accomplishment and she is much better behaved for the rest of the day. Even if it is five, ten minutes on the course.”
Ms Carbery said it is the perfect way to engage her very intelligent and energetic puppy.
Cameo came second in the recent Katherine Show agility test, Ms Carbery said.
“Today was an unexpected win,” she said.
She said the end game is to enforce obedience more so than win competitions.
The Katherine Town Council’s annual Doggy Day was a hive of activity today with dog lovers bringing down their best pals for the fun.
Dogs of all shapes and sizes were treated to pats galore and lots of canine interaction.
It was also a chance for owners to test their pets in a social situation.
In addition to registration and microchipping services, owners could talk to vets, rangers and boarding houses.
Dog adoption was also on offer.
