We left before dawn, came home after dark, were on the road all up for nine hours, all because of a book.

Yesterday I and a few others made our way to Gunbalanya to celebrate something. I risked driving my AWD (ie non 4WD) through Cahill’s Crossing.
We bumped and were all shook up the last stretch of road, to sit through a celebration where I didn’t understand most of the words spoken.
It was for the launch of the Kunwinjku New Testament. That’s the second part of the Bible – specifically, the Jesus-story part.
On and off it’s been a work in progress since the 1930s.
You might be wondering why we bothered going.
Because this book is my book. I love this book. It is God’s story about Jesus for me.
But this book is a book for every Kunwinjku speaker too. It is God’s story about Jesus for them. We went because this book is their book. And now they can read it for themselves in their heart language.
And that was worth celebrating, even if every word I heard was foreign to me. Because God speaks all our languages and now Kunwinjku speakers can hear him more.
St Paul’s Anglican Church meets on Sundays at 9am with kids church. All welcome.
