More dogs take poison baits

It is believed more dogs have died from taking poison baits.

Police said they have investigated further reports of dog deaths in Katherine, but still believe there is “no malice” involved.

Instead it is believed dogs, as many as three, may have died from 1080 baits incorrectly laid in the wrong area.

Katherine Times was contacted today by one dog owner who believes her dog died from poisoning.

The dog owner, who asked not to be identified, said her dog had mysteriously escaped for their house yard late last week.

The dog’s dead body was later found, and its owner believed it had been poisoned.

Although having few further details about the suspicious death, the owner has since contacted Katherine Town Council and the police.

A police spokeswoman said: “Police, in conjunction with other agencies, are investigating reports of alleged dog baiting in the Katherine region.

“At this stage police believe there is no malice involved and there should be no cause for public concern. If anyone suspects their pets have been poisoned they can contact police on 131444.”
